John Hay is the owner-operator behind AXOmega — the same person who scopes, builds, and connects AXOmega’s websites, e-commerce, custom software, automation and integrations. Now available as an embedded contractor who joins your Git, Slack and tools and ships in small, useful stages.

That breadth matters on a contracting engagement: most work crosses “website / software / systems” boundaries. John maps how the business actually operates first, then picks up your stack — Astro, Next/React, e-commerce, APIs and automation — without handing you between specialists.

How it works

Contractor, not employee — clear from day one.

You contract B2B with AXOMEGA LTD (verifiable on the NZ Companies Register) for services under a short SOW. I work under your direction within that scope — stand-ups, Slack, Git — as part of the company for the engagement.

It stays a services relationship: no PAYE, no benefits administration, no employment relationship. You get flexibility; I remain responsible for delivery within the agreed stages. If your legal team requires PAYE/EOR, tell me before scoping — I’ll be direct about fit.

Where you already have an MSA, I’ll sign it. Otherwise AXOmega’s MSA + SOW covers milestones, IP assignment on payment, liability cap and NZ law — the same clear paper we use for scoped project work. Nothing hidden, nothing one-sided.

Engagement models

Pick the shape that fits the work.

All models are scoped after a free 15-minute chat. You choose the intensity; I commit to the outcome for that stage. No lock-in beyond the agreed milestone.

Embedded sprint

2–4 weeks, focused. One clear outcome — a feature, integration or fix — shipped and handed over. Daily async updates, demo at the end of the sprint.

Best for: backlog item you need gone, integration that’s overdue, proof of concept.

Fractional — 2–3 days/week

Ongoing, part-time. I join your backlog and cadence for weeks to months, with agreed capacity and priorities each week.

Best for: roadmap that needs steady throughput from an experienced professional without a full-time hire.

Advisory / rescue

A few days to a week. Health-check, code/process review, or rescue of a stuck build — with a written map and options, not just opinions.

Best for: second opinion before you commit, or unsticking a build.

Availability & logistics

How we’ll work together

Based in Auckland (NZST), working with teams predominantly in NZ. I work NZ business hours with face-to-face in Auckland when it helps; worldwide work is via axomega.com.

Minimum engagement is typically one sprint (1–2 weeks) or one fractional week (2–3 days). Notice for extension, pause or wrap is one week or the end of the current milestone, whichever is sooner — no long lock-in. Capacity is reserved once the SOW and first Stripe milestone are accepted.

Communication: Slack / Teams, GitHub / GitLab, Notion / Linear — your stack. Daily async note, demos at each milestone, and a short handover note so the team can continue without me.

Rates & billing

Scoped after a chat — billed by milestone.

No public rate card that pretends every embedding is the same. After a free 15-minute chat about stack, outcome and dates, you get an SOW with day / week / month options and what each milestone covers.

How billing works

Quoted and invoiced in NZ dollars + GST.

Each milestone is a separate Stripe-hosted invoice — due on receipt unless the SOW says NET 7 — with acceptance criteria. You pay for the stage, we do the work for that stage. GST 15% is a separate line. See Billing and Terms for deposits vs milestones and refund principles (amounts attributable to work performed may be retained; unearned balance is refunded).

No PAYE, no benefits admin — contractor via AXOMEGA LTD. We never ask for card details by email — the Stripe link is the only place to enter payment details.

Are you open to being part of the company?

Yes — that’s the point of this page. I’ll join as an embedded contractor, sign your Mutual NDA, work inside your Git/Slack/tools, attend stand-ups, and be part of the team for the engagement. The relationship stays B2B via AXOMEGA LTD, not employment.

Contractor or employee — which is it?

Contractor. You engage AXOMEGA LTD (NZ) for services under an SOW/MSA. I work under your direction within the agreed scope. No PAYE, no employee benefits. If your legal team requires PAYE or an EOR, tell me before scoping — I’ll be direct about fit.

Do you sign NDAs?

Happily — before the scoping chat if you prefer. Send your Mutual NDA or I can provide AXOmega’s. Either way, the SOW will also cover confidentiality and IP assignment on payment for work in the SOW.

What rates and invoicing should we expect?

Scoped after a 15-minute chat. You’ll get day / week / month milestone options with what each covers. Invoiced via Stripe in NZD + GST. Each invoice maps to a stage with acceptance criteria — no large upfront.
